The Riviera
Country Club is for antonomasia the golf club of
the greatest Hollywood stars, it is so that some mythical
stars of the Unites States' celluloid have their names
impressed on the limousines reserved parking lot's floor.
Last Sunday on the last green below the majestic club-house,
the selected Los Angeles' golf fans, discovered a new
star.
On a rainy day that made playing very difficult, an inauspicious
bogey on the long final hole deprived our own "Peppo"
Canonica the access to the play-offs for the victory of
one of the historical American tournaments: the Nissan
Open. "A terrible 5", that forced the Italian
bomber to be content with the seventh place, but that
in any case constitutes a difficult undertaking of which
Emanuele has to be proud of and for which he deserves
an applause. His seventh place brought him over 225 million
Italian Lira, earning a 78th place in the American Money
List.
Just for the news, the Nissan
Open, which had 7 billion Italian Lira of price-money,
was won by the Australian Robert
Allenby (earning 1 billion 300 million Italian
Lira). With a clamorous club 3 in flag from over 200 meters,
he was able to shoot for a birdie, the second in the entire
day, at the hole 18 which, was the first hole of a disparity
that the Australian had to face together with other five
players: the Japanese Izawa
and the Americans Chamblee,
Tway, Sluman
and Paulson. |

Great delusion for David Love
III, leader with three lengths after 54 holes but
who ended up running into a final 75 that awarded him
with an 8th place, while the phenomenal Tiger
Woods disappointed everyone ending up only 13th.
In Canonica's glory day, honor must go to his friend and
counselor Costantino Rocca,
who, in the European Tour, in the Caltex
Masters of Singapore,
placed himself 17th with four rounds under 70 shots, best
performance for the Bergamo born champion who started
stealthily in the previous tournaments played. On the
Singapore Island Golf Clubs'
course, Vikai Sing collected
his second success after last week's victory in Malaysia.
With a final round in 68 shots and a total of 21 under
par, the Fiji's champion headed by 2 shots the young Britannic
Warren Bennett, whom at
the same time, putting for a birdie an approach shot at
the last hole, passed in extremes an excellent Colin
Montgomerie whom was also running up for his second
consecutive victory after the one obtained in Australia. |
