Canonica at the PGA Tour

A very long march of
234 holes, lead Emanuele Canonica to obtain the card to
play the PGA Tour in the year 2001. For the first time
in history, an Italian will play full time on the American
circuit, that up until now has only seen playing on the
green Roberto Bernardini
in the 60's and Costantino Rocca
in more recent times.
The past year 2000 season witnessed the definite consecration
of Emanuele Canonica, 27th in the final Money List, after
having registered as best performance a brilliant second
place at the Deutsche Bank Open
in Hamburg. During the season, the young Emanuele, known
as Peppo, has regularized his game and as of today has
absolutely nothing to envy the best European players,
whom he beats with his powerful drive that reaches in
average around 296 yards (270 meters).
On the American Scene, Canonica will certainly be a worthy
adversary, under a spectacular point of view for Tiger
Woods, whom finally will find one's match! Kidding
aside, the American courses adapt to his game, and Peppo
has excellent possibilities of even becoming a personage.
The only negative side of all this is that being busy
playing in the States he will not be able to compete at
the European matches valid for an eventual inclusion in
the continental team of the Ryders'Cup.

However, Canonica has openly stated that it has always
been his dream to play in what is considered the native
land of golf. Canonica's engagement in the States will
not forbid him to fly back once in a while to the "Old
Continent"... |
